    Saving Contacts as Individual Files

    • 1). Open Outlook if it's not open already and select the "Contacts" section from the left-hand navigation pane.

    • 2). Open the location in Windows where you want to save your contacts. Click the "Start" button and select "Documents" or "Computer" to navigate to whatever location you want to use. You can save the contacts anywhere, but you want to be sure you can find them again among your other files.

    • 3). Select the contact or contacts you want to save by highlighting them using the mouse cursor or by selecting individual ones by holding down the "Control" button and clicking on a contact to add it to your currently selected contacts.

    • 4). Drag and drop the contacts you've selected into the window you opened to save each contact as an individual file at that location.

    Saving a Contacts List

    • 1). Open Outlook if it's not open already and select the "Contacts" section from the left-hand navigation pane.

    • 2). Click the "File" menu at the top of the screen and select "Import and Export..."

    • 3). Select "Export to a file" and click "Next."

    • 4). Select the format you want to save your contacts as and click "Next." The most widely compatible options are "Comma Separated Values (DOS)" and "Comma Separated Values (Windows)." If you know you'll be using these contacts with Outlook in the future, best choice is "Personal Folder File (.pst)." Keep in mind that many other programs cannot use.pst files. If you're not sure what to do, export the contacts twice as two different file types.

    • 5). Select the folder you want to export and click "Next." If you have more than one email account in Outlook, they all will display in this window, so make sure you select the contacts group from the correct account. To export every contact you have, select the "Contacts" folder itself and check the box beside "Include subfolders." To export only one of your contacts lists, click the plus icon beside "Contacts" and select the subfolder you want.

    • 6). Click the "Browse" button to select the location where you want to save the contacts.

    • 7). Leave the default option for duplicates in the "Options" section of the window if you're exporting contacts as a PST file. (This option is not available for other file types.)

    • 8). Click "Finish" to begin saving the Outlook contacts.
