How to Organize a Storeroom
- 1). Take everything out of your storeroom. It is easier to sort through items and group them when you can see them all in front of you.
- 2). Group like items. Be it clothing, sporting equipment, documents or books, similar items should be grouped together for easy storage and easy location later.
- 3). Place loose items into plastic storage boxes. Protect items, such as clothing, by placing them into resealable plastic bags before placing into boxes. Label the boxes for easy location of items later. Be as specific as you need to be. You may wish to include a short list of the box contents, such as: "Magazines 1990-2000: National Geographic, Cosmo, Vogue."
- 4). Designate areas in your storeroom for the various categories of items you have separated. For example, one area can be for sporting equipment, another area for furniture and another for clothing.
- 5). Place the boxes into your storeroom, starting with the items you use infrequently. Things such as unused furniture and old keepsakes can be stored at the back of your storeroom, making room for frequently used items to be placed in front.
