Kinds of Grasshoppers
- These grasshoppers have a slanted face and their wings are colorless. They also do not have a spur between their front pair of legs. A spur is a small spike jutting out of the joint.
- Meadow grasshoppers have long, straight antennae that shoot out in front of them and a little to the side. These also have very long back legs.
- Band-winged grasshoppers have very colorful wings and may have a black band across the wing. They also have smaller antennae and a round head.
- Spur-throated grasshoppers have a characteristic cylindrical spike, called a spur, poking out between their two front legs. The adults of this species are capable of flying for longer distances than other grasshoppers.
- Lubber grasshoppers are very large, and do not have a spur in between their two front legs. This is one of the larger of the grasshopper species.
