Yoga is an ancient art form which was brought into practice mainly by the yogis of the Eastern countries.
Yoga is now a time proven art which is accepted universally.
Yoga is further divided into different types like Raja, Karma, Hatha, Bhakti, Jnana, Kundalini and Mantra Yoga.
The most popular form in the west is Hatha which mainly deals with asanas or poses which are simply considered as good exercise by many Westerners.
What is not often considered is the connection between yoga and spirituality and the connection between Hinduism, Spirituality and Yoga.
It is much more than mere physical exercises.
Anyone who practices on a regular basis would not hesitate to share the physiological, mental, emotional as well as spiritual benefits to an aspirant.
Even the scientific theories which gives it an upper hand over all the other forms of physical exercises is its spiritual benefits.
It has long been a part of the culture of Hinduism so most Hindus would consider it true that it has the possibility of offering some of the highest spiritual benefits.
Usually, people relate the term spirituality with religion or God.
However, it has a very different attitude towards spirituality and considers the inner soul as the Supreme power.
Hinduism spirituality may be said to be of the belief that God is one with the inner consciousness and soul and we are the manifestation of that consciousness and soul and that our actions produce an echoing effect of all our thoughts and actions in this life and the next which is presented to us as our Karma.
Since, it was mainly made popular by the yogis and sanyasis of Hinduism, there is no wonder that it is mainly related to Hinduism.
However, it is a fact that it has a much broader perspective and is practised with the same enthusiasm and vigour by people from all walks of life and by people of all religions.
This has become possible primarily because it is a very effective way of reaching one's own consciousness and self and can easily be accessed via the first steps on the path, physical exercise.
Regular practice unites the body, mind and inner consciousness or the Supreme God.
This experience is considered to be the most important aspect by veterans and all the other benefits are just the side effects for them.
Yoga is a means to achieve peace and tranquility of mind.
It keeps the mind clear of all the unwanted thoughts and tensions and allows the mind to concentrate on the supreme power which is of the utmost importance in life.
Though the spiritual benefits include control of mind and thought as well as psychic control, one spiritual benefit which is testified to, by many of the practitioners, is self realization, which helps the practitioner to understand the body, mind and spirit connection in a much better way.
