Having a baby is probably one of life's most exciting and, equally scariest moments of an adults life. The first time you look down and see that bundle of joy....it's life changing. When you bring your baby home that first day it is so exciting. But expect the unexpected...I know it sounds like a contradiction but parents with older children will probably know what that means. No matter how well you prepare your home, or how many books you read, things your baby will do will surprise you daily. I will attempt to answer some of the most common questions about your babies daily activities.
What is the fastest way to bond with a newborn?
You and your partner should hold your infant close to your chest (skin to skin). Baby talk, talk to your baby with Cooing sounds. Your baby will recognize your voice over a short period of time and equate it to safety. Look into your newborns eyes regularly and smile. After a while it will mimic your expressions, and recognize you.
How much sleep will my health for my newborn?
At first a baby sleeps a lot, as much as 16 hours a day. Usually it wont be a strait 16 hours it will probably be around 2-3 hour stretches. By 6 months of age many babies will sleep six hours a night.
If your baby doesn't want to sleep at night, be more active during daytime hours so they stay awake, and get tuckered out.
How often should my baby nurse?
Babies should feed every 2-3 hrs. You will be able to tell if your baby is getting enough to eat, if they
have six or more wet diapers 24 hours. During the first week or your babies life they usually lose a little weight but then starts to gain weight again in the second week. If you feel that your babies weight is a concern call your pediatrician.
How often should a newborn be washed?
Usually 3 times a week, any more than that can dry out its skin. After diaper changes always wipe your baby clean with a sponge or wash cloth.
