How to Stain Composite Decking
- 1). Sweep the deck to remove loose dirt, dust and other debris.
- 2). Hose down the deck with water.
- 3). Scrub the deck with a scrubbing brush to remove ingrained dirt and debris.
- 4). Rinse the deck with water from your hose. Let it dry completely for at least 24 hours.
- 5). Dip a paintbrush into the composite decking stain. Brush the stain onto the decking. Work from the edge of the deck toward the stairs or door to make sure you don't paint yourself into a corner.
- 6). Soak up any pooled stain with a clean cloth. Do not let the pooled stain dry as this will make shiny spots on the finished decking.
- 7). Let the stain sit for 30 minutes. It will dry a little but will not dry completely.
- 8). Let the decking dry for at least 24 hours. While it is drying, keep pets and children off the decking.
