How to Paint With Melamine Paint
- 1). Check the temperature and humidity in the room where you'll be painting. Ideally it should be about 77 degrees and 50 percent humidity.
- 2). Clean the surface of your countertops or cabinets with a product that will remove any grease. Melamine paint will not adhere to a dirty surface, so this step cannot be skipped.
- 3). Sand all surfaces with a 220- or 320-grit sandpaper to help the paint adhere to the surface. Wash the dust with a damp rag and then follow with a dry rag to be sure no dust is clinging to the area about to be painted.
- 4). Open the paint and stir it well. Pour paint in the paint pan. Cut in the edges of the surface with the natural bristle brush.
- 5). Work the paint into the small roller gently. Paint the rest of the surface carefully, making several passes over each area. Allow to dry about two hours.
- 6). Paint the second coat when the first coat has dried. No need to sand between coats.
- 7). If you waited more than 72 hours (three days) between coats, then very lightly sand the first coat with steel wool. Wipe off any dust and repaint using the same technique described above.
