How to Make Punjabi Friends
- 1). Attend Indian and Pakistani festivals in your area. Both types of festivals are often rich with Punjabi cuisine, music and dancing. Attending these festivals provides you with the opportunity to meet people from the Punjab region. Converse with the people working in the booths, the dancers and musicians and other visitors to the festival. Mention your interest in the Punjab area and see where it leads.
- 2). Attend services at a local Muslim mosque, Sikh gudwara or Hindu temple. Contact the organization beforehand to see if non-members are welcome and to ascertain the proper behavior and participation level allowed at the service. Take the opportunity to learn about the religion and get acquainted with the members.
- 3). Join a Punjabi forum online. Take the opportunity to chat with other members of the community. See if there is anyone who lives near you and develop a friendship. Take it slow, however, and don't come on too strong. Wait to see if you have things in common rather than developing a relationship just because the person is Punjabi.
- 4). Place a friendship or pen-pal ad in a Punjabi paper. State that you're looking for friendship and are interested in exchanging cultural information. If your friend is new to America, you can exchange knowledge on your respective cultures and help each other out.
