How to Check If Your Windows Is Genuine
- 1). Log in to your computer with administrator privileges. If you are the sole user of the computer, then your log-on should have administrator status. If you do not have administrator status, refer to the start-up documents that came with your computer if this is your personal computer, or contact your IT department if this is your work computer.
- 2). Open your Internet browser, such as Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer.
- 3). Navigate to the Genuine Microsoft Software website (see Resources for link).
- 4). Click on the "Validate Windows" button on the left side of the screen. It is inside a square titled "Validate Now."
- 5). Click on "Download." If a window pops up asking you to save, click the "Save" button to save it. Note the location where you are saving it.
- 6). Navigate to the saved file and double-click to open it. Click "Yes" at the prompt asking if you want to run the software. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the program.
- 7). Return to the download page for the program you just downloaded and installed. Click the "Continue" button to determine whether your copy of Windows is genuine.
