How to Make a Recovery Partition for Windows XP on a Dell E310
- 1). Select "Start," click "Run" and type "compmgmt.msc" (without quotes). Click "OK."
- 2). Select "Disk Management" from the menu that appears. Right-click on the "unallocated space" of the main Dell E310 hard drive and select "New Partition."
- 3). Choose to create a "Logical Drive" and allocate about 10 percent of your total hard drive space to this partition.
- 4). Click "Format this partition with the following settings." Choose either NTFS or FAT32 as your format--keep the same format that you use on the main partition. Agree to create the partition and let the tool finish (this might take up to 20 minutes).
- 5). Put the Windows XP installation CD in your Dell E310's optical drive and click "Perform Additional Tasks" on the menu screen.
- 6). Click "Browse this CD" and navigate to the following location: "\ValueAdd\Msft\Ntbackup." Click on the file named "Ntbackup.msi" and install this program.
- 7). Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories" and "System Tools," then click on "Backup."
- 8). Continue through the welcome screen and select "Back up files and settings."
- 9). Select the files you want to back up and choose the newly created partition as the location. You can also use this tool to set up an automated backup system that can save files weekly.
