The Role of a Navy Spouse
- A Navy spouse must protect and preserve the unity and dignity of her family, her squadron or command families and the Navy family as a whole. She must reach out and protect not only her own children and family, but also those families that work with her military spouse. The Navy spouse must provide assistance and support to other families in the military spouse's Command.
- The Navy spouse must keep house, wash clothes, shop for groceries and take active part in local and civic activities. She must also work at her own career as well as prepare for relocations and hardships during deployments. As a Navy spouse, she must be many things within the family unit. The Navy spouse must be mother, father, counselor and family manager. She must also prepare and follow a Navy Family Emergency Plan.
- The Navy spouse should feel the pride of belonging to the Navy team and recognize that she, too, is a representative of the Navy and the United States. The Navy spouse has the responsibility to promote not only her spouse, but also the Navy.
- Navy spouses must consider naval protocol for all events. The Navy spouse must understand what to wear and what not to wear for each event. The outfit should match the level of formality of the uniform worn by the military spouse. The Navy spouse must also consider flag etiquette and common courtesies.
