When I was a little girl, my mother realized that my father was cheating on her because we started getting hang up calls in the middle of the night.

  (This statistic is a little misleading as there is a good amount of cheaters who are never caught.
  By of those that are, it's often the mobile that does it.
) Think about it.
  He has to have some way to discretely contact her.
  If you were him, how would you do it? What device to almost all people keep on their person at most times? Their personal phones of course.
  Many of us use these gadgets for work and play so it's not at all out of the ordinary to be using them for almost everything.
  And, being on one doesn't arouse suspicion or ring any alarm bells, making it seemingly the perfect tool.
This seems less risky than using a computer (although some still do) because it is possible that you'll snoop around on the computer when he's not around.
  However, he'll tell himself that he can keep the phone out of your reach and with him at all times, making it easier to keep his secret.
Getting Your Hands On The Phone To Get The Proof That You Need: To be quite honest, you only need a few minutes alone with the phone.
  You don't need to check it daily and you don't need regular access to it.
  If you can figure out a way to get your hands on it for five minutes, this is all you need.

Using His Phone To Catch Him Cheating: There are a couple of ways to catch him here.
  You can check the call log for unknown numbers and run them through a reverse search directory.
  You should know though that the free directories will only show you the area of the number, not who it belongs to.
  If you find one of the pretty cheap paid services, you can get their name, address, and general personal information that will give you a great starting point.
  This is a good place to start.
If this doesn't give you what you need, you can install spy ware on their phone.
  It's very difficult for them to find and from your computer, you can log on and then get a print out of all SMS text messages, calls, and Internet visits.
