How to Plan a Fun On the Farm and Barnyard Theme Party
- 1). Make the big-picture decisions about the party first, preferably four weeks before the date of the party. Set the party's date, establish a guest list and find a fitting location for the barnyard theme. If you want to go to an actual farm, call or email farms that advertise hosting parties. You can also choose to create a barnyard in your own backyard.
- 2). Purchase or make your fun on the farm invitations, fill them out and mail them three weeks before the party, if possible. Look or make invitations that establish the barnyard theme, such as those picturing a barn, cows, goats or other barnyard creatures.
- 3). Create the menu for your fun on the farm party. Include enough food for all of the guests, offering a few different options to accommodate everyone. Serve a cake shaped like a cow, pig or barn to fit the theme, and choose snacks that look like barnyard food such as French fries as hay and granola as grains. Pigs in a blanket or black cows (ice cream and cola) are also menu options.
- 4). Organize the party details and stock up on supplies. Purchase the necessary supplies for the party such as cups, plates, napkins, cutlery and serving trays. If you're planning on getting any rentals or hiring entertainment for your fun on the farm party, such as hiring someone to give hay rides, do so at least two weeks before the party.
- 5). Purchase or make the decorations for the party. Premade barnyard theme decorations are available at party supply stores and online party retailers. You can use hay bales for seating and decoration, as well. If you want to make your own decorations, cut out construction-paper animals for posters and make black cow spots on white tablecloths with permanent marker. Create a pigpen by filling a fenced-in area with pink balloons with snouts, eyes and ears drawn on them. Add a ribbon tail to each balloon.
- 6). Prepare party games and activities. Games and activities that fit well with the fun on the farm theme include a petting zoo with barnyard animals, hayrides, pony rides and duck-duck-goose. Purchase small favors or prizes for the kids, such as barn-shaped notebooks, miniature farm animal figurines or barnyard stickers.
