Young Adult Gifts

Gift buying can be fun when you have ideas, but when the gift recipient is a young adult, finding something fun and age-appropriate can be difficult. Young adults fall into an awkward age group where toys are no longer an option, but anything too adult, like a book, could be -- gasp -- lame. Finding the right balance is the key for this age group. - E-Readers are great for young adults because they encourage reading with the glossy shine of technology. Several e-readers on the market feature different capabilities and prices to match.
- Video games have been popular with young adults for decades, and technology has advanced enough that an adult can give a game as a gift without feeling irresponsible. Opt for a game that encourages exercise, like a dance game, or some other talent like a karaoke or rock band game. Also, most systems have accessories to augment the gaming experience, so if you can't find a game you think is suitable, you can get an add-on to enhance the games that the recipient already owns.
- More "stuff" isn't always the best answer, so go for tickets to a concert, an exhibit or a festival. Let the young adult's age determine the number of tickets you buy. If he is under 18, buy a third ticket so that an adult can go along; otherwise two tickets are fine.
- Board games are good gifts for all ages, but now many classic games have been updated, often with electronic components. These revamped games are great for young adults because they don't scream, "Your mom used to love this."
