Set up a still life using a bunch of flowers in a glass vase, causes interesting things to happen to the stems of flowers when viewed through the glass, even more so when you add water. Include both the flowers and the vase in the painting.

• Composition Ideas:
• Use a few small flowers in a big vase, so the vase dominates the composition.
• Allow the flowers to go off the edge of the composition, perhaps part of the vase too.

• Use a glass jam jar as the vase.
• Think about the viewpoint: will you position yourself looking down onto the flowers, at eye level, or up towards them.
• Have flowers in different stages, some in bud form and others fully open.

Up the challenge by painting the arrangement of flowers after they've died and the water turned green or murky.
