How to Make a Dinosaur in ASCII
- 1). Choose a dinosaur species to base your ASCII art on. A book on dinosaurs or an online image search can both be helpful. Find a specific picture to model your dinosaur after.
- 2). Open a simple text editing program, such as Notepad. If the program is not already using a monospace font, change it to one, such as Lucida Console or Courier.
- 3). Look at the highest point on the dinosaur's body, and make a note of how much horizontal space there is between it and the leftmost part of the body. Press the spacebar on your keyboard until you have approximately as much space as you calculated.
- 4). Use the characters on your keyboard or in your operating system's Character Map software to outline the dinosaur's body. Use / and \ for diagonal lines, --- or _ for horizontal, and | for vertical. O and o make good eyes, while n and # are great toenails. Use V, ^, < and > for teeth, or choose another character that you think looks better.
- 5). Finish drawing the dinosaur's body, one horizontal line at a time. Remember to use the spacebar to advance the cursor to the position at which you need it to be. Always press Enter at the end of a line.
