How to Stain Cultured Stone
- 1). Apply paint stripper according to the manufacturer's instructions on the label. Use a paintbrush for small surfaces and a paint sprayer for large surfaces. Allow the stripper to sit on the cultured stone for as long as directed. The stripper is not necessary for unfinished cultured stone.
- 2). Remove the paint stripper by scraping the surface with a putty knife until all the residue is gone. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth.
- 3). Allow the surface to dry completely. It is very important to have a totally clean and dry surface before applying concrete stain.
- 4). Apply a concrete etching solution to the cultured stone surface according to the package directions. Apply the solution only if the surface of the stone is completely smooth. The surface must be coarse enough to allow the stain to adhere properly. Rinse the surface as directed, and let it air dry.
- 5). Open the concrete stain. Stir the stain thoroughly with a paint stirrer.
- 6). Apply the concrete stain according to the manufacturer's instructions on the label. Use a nylon or polyester paintbrush for small areas and a paint sprayer for large areas. When applying, overlap each stroke to keep a wet edge. If you use a paint sprayer, go over the surface with a paintbrush to ensure the stain reaches every crevice.
- 7). Allow a minimum of 24 hours' drying time before walking on the surface of the cultured stone. Allow a minimum of 7 days' drying time before driving on the surface.
