Martial Arts for Discipline and Self-Defense

Martial arts are fighting techniques which are thought to have their origin in the east. It is a discipline requiring dedication, skill, discipline and mental strength. These skills are often used for self-defense and to develop extreme levels of discipline and control. It is also often use as a source for attaining body fitness and health. 

Today the technique is often used in the training of special forces in the armies of various countries. The soldiers who receive the special training are often sent on special missions where they are required to infiltrate areas under great secrecy and without being noticed. Martial arts also give these soldiers the edge over other soldiers, especially if it come to face to face unarmed confrontation. 

Traditionally the clothing worn by individuals are white and consists of a pants and a top which is tied using a belt using the same fabric as the rest of the attire. In some instances the white color is replaced, but the belt is maintained. The reason being that the color if the belt signifies the level that a student has achieved within a particular martial art. At the onset the belt in usually white and as the student progresses it changes through a range of colors until the highest level of black belt is achieved. 

There are many of the arts where opponents combat each other unarmed. In these situations there are a number of ways of striking or kicking your opponent. Besides the unarmed situation, there also many weapons that may also be used. These vary greatly and include various forms of knives, swords and sticks to name but a few. 

Many of these techniques have become popular sporting disciplines where members from different clubs or countries fight each other in local, national and even international competitions. In these competitions there are usually three categories of combat. We have no contact, medium contact and then full contact. Use the terms illustrate, in the full contact fights the winner is declared when he or she is able to knock down their opponent. 

Many symbols are associated with the practice of the martial arts. Some of these have found their way into the clothing industry and are often found adorning the fronts of sweaters and tops. These sweaters are extremely popular amongst some young people. 

The martial arts are a number of combat skills which have developed over time. It is also one that is practiced by the young and old and is a great teacher of self-discipline and control.
