We're all looking for that perfect wrinkle cream to erase wrinkles and fine lines, and while a great wrinkle cream moisturizes the skin, and does a wonderful job on the outside, it is important to also help your skin from the inside.
One way to help your skin from the inside is by reducing stress. Stress releases free radicals into the body. These free radicals damage and kill healthy cells throughout the body. Damaged cells lead to a breakdown in collage and that, in turn is the major cause of wrinkles and fine lines. Is your job way too stressful? Do the tasks and burdens you place on yourself create unnecessary stress? Are you not getting enough sleep? We may not be able to eliminate stress from our lives, but here are a few tips to help you avoid and lower your stress.
1. Quit smoking. Smoking is the worst thing you can do for yourself, and your skin. Smoking itself releases free radicals which increase oxidation and the chain reaction of damaging cells. When you're stressed at work, don't add to the stress by having a cigarette. Instead, try a short, brisk walk, and stretching.
2. Stretching at work. Being confined to an office chair all day can be hard on the body. Practice stretching throughout the day to keep your body loose and limber. Touching your toes, reaching for the sky, stretching your back muscles can all shake out the stress from our jobs. Please talk to your doctor before attempting any rigorous stretching techniques, to make sure your body is ready for exercise. There are lots of great books out there that describe office exercise techniques and breathing exercises to reduce stress while on the job.
3. Practice Yoga. This goes back to breathing and stretching. Yoga has been used for thousands of years to clear the mind and keep the body in tip, top shape. Yoga is great exercise. It reduces stress and strengthens the mind, body connection.
4. Limit alcohol. Ever have a couple of drinks after work to unwind? That's fine, but don't overdo the partying. Too much alcohol dehydrates the body, and your body needs water and hydration to prevent wrinkles. On those mornings after drinking way too much, you probably notice more crow's feet and fine lines around your eyes. The best thing to do is drink plenty of water, apply a moisturizer, and get some rest.
5. Eat a healthy diet. You want a variety of foods that are high in antioxidants. Studies have shown that foods high in antioxidants fight free radicals, and reduce the signs of aging. Antioxidants such as vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E can be found in several food groups. You want to eat brightly colored fruits and vegetables. Strawberries, blueberries, oranges, carrots, squash, and broccoli are all high in antioxidants. Green leafy vegetables, fresh fish, whole grains and nuts, and oils such as olive oil are all great sources of antioxidants. Stay away from frozen and processed foods. A healthy diet will fight the effects of stress in our daily lives.
6. Get some rest. Sleep is the number one thing your body needs and the one thing we're not getting enough of. Your body needs 8-10 hours of solid, undisturbed sleep. Can't sleep at night? Make your bedroom as dark as possible. Lower the temperature, colder temps help you sleep better. Exercise before you go to bed. And don't eat a big meal before bedtime. Eat 4-5 hours before going to sleep.
Follow these tips. Eat right, exercise, drink plenty of water, and get plenty of sleep, and you'll lower your stress in no time. Combine loosing stress with using the best wrinkle creams and moisturizers, and you'll notice fewer wrinkles and fine lines will disappear!
