Stretch are fine pinkish-purplish scar-like lines that plague almost 50% to 90% of pregnant women at one point of their pregnancy. However, non-pregnant women, men, teenagers, body builders, weight lifters or anyone who experience sudden weight gain may develop marks.

Generally a pregnant woman develops stretch on her abdomen in the 3rd trimester when her belly skin stretches to accommodate her growing fetus. But, they may also occur on arms, thighs, buttocks, breasts, etc. Hormonal changes during pregnancy or puberty may also cause marks.

Stretch occur when the upper skin layer and the underlying tissues are stretched beyond their elasticity levels. As a result the collagen structures located deep underneath break apart and the skin actually tears apart and microscopic bleeding takes place. When these tiny microscopic wounds heal scars takes place which are commonly referred as marks. The stretch may vary in length from individual to individual. Some may be a centimeter long and some may stretch up to ten centimeters.

Basically, stretch are not life-threatening but are annoying and embarrassing. Hence, majority of the women want to get rid of them. There are various treatments available to remove marks. Certain surgical techniques like laser techniques, dermabrasion, tummy tucking techniques, and chemical peels help to remove stretch but these are very expensive techniques.

But the most trusted and approved are home treatments for removing these unwanted scars.

Massage the marks areas with soft oils like primrose, lavender etc daily for at least 15 minutes and the scars will lighten and your skin will tighten gradually. Apply cocoa butter daily and get rid of stretch scars. Apply fresh aloe vera gel to heal your scar and nourish your skin. Exercise daily to tighten your skin and tone up the muscles. Certain health experts advocate that this is the best remedy to get freedom from stretch scars.

There are various over-the-counter lotions and creams available in the cosmetic industry that promise to give desired results. But very few live up to their promises. Moreover, these contain harsh chemicals which may not suit your skin texture. Hence, most of the women are now adopting home remedies to heal their stretch. Undoubtedly, these remedies take a long time to give desired results but are natural, safe, cheap and devoid of adverse effects.
