Migraines - Causes and Treatments

103 5
Let's face it; if you are a migraine sufferer there are times in your life that you will experience a migraine where it is seemingly impossible to deal with.
It is one thing if you are at home when a migraine begins, but what happens when you are at an important event or you are even working and a migraine occurs? A migraine makes it next to impossible to concentrate on anything and severe migraines can literally leave you irritated, moody, and sometimes feeling incapacitated.
Your focus can be affected, your concentration levels will definitely be affected, and you will find it hard to remain positive and productive.
A simple headache is often fairly easy to treat, depending upon its cause.
If one hasn't eaten enough, he or she may need to grab a bite to eat in order to raise one's sugar levels and to alleviate a simple headache.
If a regular headache is caused by tension or stress, a couple of aspirin often does the trick.
If a headache is brought about by a lack of caffeine, then you can curb your caffeine intake and wipe out caffeine headaches all together.
Migraines are a bit trickier to treat and the causes for migraines remain unidentified.
A typical migraine can be excruciating;  splitting pain, usually located in the temple area and pain in the eyes may force the sufferer to want to do nothing more than lay down and sleep until the migraine passes.
Aura inducing migraines can be accompanied by pain, or aura migraines may be pain free, but they are nonetheless a significant hassle.
One may suffer from disturbed vision, transient blindness, or blind spots and some people see big black spots as if blinded by the sun.
Migraines can make the sufferer nauseous and can even cause vomiting in severe cases.
Sometimes an antacid can help alleviate such symptoms.
If sensitivity to loud noises and environmental sounds develop, it is helpful to diminish the amounts of sound one is exposed to.
Placing headphones over one's ears or earplugs in one's ears may help in alleviating the latter symptom.
If it is possible to do so, the migraine sufferer may also want to take a few minutes to apply a cold compress to the head to help diminish any throbbing pain and discomfort.
Many experts cite stress as a primary source for migraines.
That being said, the migraine sufferer should seek out stress relieving activities.
If it is possible, one might want to take ten or fifteen minutes to meditate.
Meditation allows for an individual to slow their thinking processes down, to leave stressful inciters outside of one's awareness, and to turn inward where inner peace and calming can be accessed.
Daily exercise helps relieve tremendous tension too as stress in the bodily muscles is freed through exercise.
All of the latter measures to reduce stress should be implemented on a fairly regular basis in an effort to keep migraines from abruptly occurring.
If a migraine does occur, over the counter and prescribed medicines can be used to help diminish some of the severe pain one might experience.
