8 Tips to Help Relieve the Pain of a Bad Back
There is nothing worse than the pain caused by having a bad back.
The pain can range from being simple stiffness through to agonizing spasms where only bed rest will help.
Having had to deal with both ends of the spectrum I have put together a few useful tips that will hopefully help anybody who is suffering.
1.
Probably one that you will have heard of but that should not be overlooked is to use a firm or specialist orthopedic type mass mattress.
You may also want to consider updating a mattress that you have had for many years.
For short-term gain turn the current mattress regularly.
2.
Always bend using bent knees, this will ensure that there is minimal pressure put on the back.
3.
Having good posture is another important area to focus on.
Tummy pulled-in, spine straight shoulders back should help.
4.
Another thing to consider is doing some specialist back strengthening exercises regularly.
Your doctor will have some sheets that they can give you as a starting point.
5.
At times when bed rest is the only answer, ensure that you do keep mobile as well.
Even if you only take a few steps at a time.
I was once hardly able to move and had to have my doctor out to see me.
It was him that said that I would only see quicker improvement if I stayed mobile as well.
You may want to check with your doctor that this would be appropriate for your situation.
It was certainly the starting point to my recovery.
6.
Nobody likes to hear it but one of the most obvious things to do is to lose some weight, something to follow through on if this might be one of the contributory factors.
7.
I've also found that if I'm doing lots of physical activities like working in the garden or lots of lifting that wearing a belt is beneficial to my back.
8.
These days many of us spend hours hunched over our computer screens, if this is you then you will probably want to consider keeping a nice posture even while sitting.
This includes keeping your spine straight and sitting upright.
You may also want to consider taking regular breaks which means having a walk round every hour or so.
So there you have it! Many of these things well seem simple and obvious but how often do we actually do them? They are effective and do work as my personal experience is a testament to.
I hope they help you to keep bad backs at bay and also help relieve current problems.
