    Beaded Bracelets

    • Making beaded bracelets is an easy project for girls of all ages. To make these you will need pony beads and heart beads in small and large sizes, elastic cording for bracelets, and scissors. Measure the wrist and cut the string accordingly. Tie a large double knot in one end to keep the beads from sliding off. String the beads on, alternating between large and small pony beads and heart beads. Leave about an inch string at the end and tie a knot. Then tie the two-knotted ends together forming the bracelet.

    Spa Time

    • Set up mock beauty stations (or if there is money in the budget, get cosmetology students and set up real stations) where the girls can take turns getting their hair colored, a manicure and pedicure, and a make-up station for a makeover. For the hair-coloring station, purchase a variety of temporary hair coloring sprays and set up several chairs, mirrors and combs. Inexpensive inflatable footbaths are available for pedicures. Fill with warm water and some bath salts. Set up a table for manicures and pedicures with pumice stones, emery boards, nail polish, polish remover pens, lotion and clean hand towels. For a makeover station, provide several hand mirrors, eye shadow, blush, mascara, and lip-glosses.

    Learn to Dance Activity

    • Dancing is a good way for girls to express themselves and to stay active while having a good time. Have a learn-to-dance activity for the girls. Rent or purchase a few videos with several dance styles like belly dancing, hip-hop, or hula dance. Since most girls enjoy dressing up, a few items purchased at garage sales, dollar or thrift stores can make some excellent costumes to wear while dancing. Many video gaming systems include dance videos where girls can compete to follow along, making for a friendly competition.

    Funky Flip Flops

    • Have each girl bring her choice of flip-flops with her. Purchase some fabrics or bandanas with colors like pink, purple, red, and yellow. Cut the fabric or bandanas into strips 1" wide by 6" in length. Each girl will need about 35 fabric strips per shoe. Place the strips of fabric under the strap of the shoe and pull up so that both sides are even in length. Tie the strips together in a knot at the top of the strap. Pull the fabric for so that the ends fall forward. If desired alternate fabrics for a more colorful look. Continue covering the entire strap of each flip-flop.
