    • 1). Pour the milk into the container and leave it out on the counter until it reaches room temperature.

    • 2). Pour the vinegar into the milk and stir to curdle the milk. Leave it to sit on the counter overnight and stir it periodically.

    • 3). Add your pigment to a small container and mix it thoroughly with an equal amount of water.

    • 4). Pour the lime into a separate container and slowly stir in 1.5 cups of water to make a paste.

    • 5). Place the cheesecloth over the colander and pour the milk/vinegar mixture into it to separate the curds from the whey. Rinse the curds to remove any clinging whey.

    • 6). Rinse the bucket with water and add the curds back into it. Use a spoon to break up any large curds.

    • 7). Add the lime and water paste to the curds and stir until the curds begin to break down (if they resist, let it sit for half an hour or so and then try stirring again).

    • 8). Slowly add the pigment to the mixture until you reach the desired color. Add small amounts of water as you go if you notice that the paint is too thick.

    • 9). Spread a new piece of cheese cloth over the colander and strain the paint into a fresh container to remove any curds that may remain.
