What Happened? Computer Virus!

When I turned on my computer and logged in the  bottom task bar never appeared! I thought the boot session didn't complete. There was something wrong definitely but not that serious at least I thought. I rebooted the computer and got the freaking blue screen of death as they say. Never could I believe that this was happening but it was. My heart dropped and I shut the computer down to prevent further corruption of the files.

I went to a friends computer who had internet access and felt necessary to remind me "I told you so" every 5 minutes. Well during my research I discovered naively because I didn't know I could of gotten a free scan and trial anti-virus software. I think because I was blinded by the anxiety of trying to find a way to delete the virus.

Quickly I was searching through blogs and forums. I read a blog that said to hit alt-ctrl-delete and then to begin a new task run "iexplorer.exe". After I did that the task bar reappeared and I was relieved and thought the virus was defeated. But later on the task bar disappeared again so I did the same thing, "again".  I began to get concerned and thoughts started flowing through my head. Am I under attack? I heard about key loggers and wondered If I had one in my computer. Key loggers are programs that install themselves in hidden part of your computer and email every key stroke to another person. Was all my personal info being transmitted? Scary, isn't it?

It was like a fight between me and this senseless being that was taking control of my computer. A virus is classified as a form of artificial intelligence because they replicate as many times as they can in order to survive. They can hide and learn your tactics used against them. So I kept on doing the al-ctrl-delete thing. I tried deleting the processes I learned that weren't necessary as I browsed the internet for tips. Then ads kept on showing up. They said that my computer was infected with viruses and I should purchase there anti virus software.

How could they know I had a virus and where did this program I had never seen come from? Hey I would be really stupid to buy the program cause they might really want my credit card numbers with a "valid excuse". Soon the virus was gaining admin access and disallowing me to reach certain areas. The more I fought the more access I lost. Until ultimately the virus was in total control. I lost the fight.

This really sucks because now I had to buy a brand new operating system. I thought about calling the computer brand and buying from there but the mail wait was like 2-8  weeks. I got it from the store 30 dollars more expensive but I got it today. I ask the sales rep for anti-virus software and bought it to. I also got a good firewall with the deal.

After this I learned my lesson straight.  The first thing to do once you access the internet is get anti-virus software. From now on less and less problems have occurred and malware removed and some known websites to be harmful blocked. I can't say all of the viruses deleted because everyday new viruses appear but my percentage of security is higher now as long as I keep updates on the anti-virus program.
