How to Make a Card With a Program
- 1). Open a desktop publishing program and click "Publications for Print." Scroll to the "Greeting Cards" option, review the preset design templates and double-click one to open it in your workspace. Don't worry if you don't like the colors or designs; you'll change them in a later step.
- 2). Click through the four pages of the card at the bottom of the screen to get a feel for the preset design layout and all of the placeholder information. Because the card is one piece of paper folded over twice, it looks like four separate pages on the bottom of the screen (pages represent the cover, inside front cover, inside back cover and back cover).
- 3). (Optional) Right-click a graphic, click "Change Picture" and select "From File." Browse to a location on your computer where you have an image stored for the card, such as your family's holiday portrait or a picture of your new baby. Double-click the file name and the image instantly appears on the card. Repeat this process to add more pictures throughout the card.
- 4). Click once on a block of text in the card to highlight it and then start typing directly over the top of it with your own greeting or message. Highlight the words and use the text toolbar at the top of the page to change the font, size or color as desired.
- 5). Add a new text box to the card, such as for the recipient's or your name on page three (the right side/inside back cover), by clicking the "Text" tool on the "Tools" palette on the left side of the screen (it looks like an "A" on an index card). Draw the text box and type in the text. Then highlight the words and use the text toolbar to format them.
- 6). Click "Color Schemes" in the "Greeting Card Options" panel. Scroll through the color families and double-click one for it to automatically change the card in the workspace.
- 7). Check the last page (page four at the bottom of the screen) and review the "Made by..." sentiment for the back page of the card. Type your name if you want it to be on the card; otherwise, click once on the box to highlight it and then press the "Delete" key on your keyboard. Repeat the process for each feature you want to remove from the card.
