Frigidaire Dryer Is Not Tumbling
- Before you begin examining the appliance in earnest it's worth checking the basics. Make sure you have selected a drying cycle, set a drying time and pressed the "Start" button. In some cases it is necessary to hold down the "Start" button for a few seconds. Double-check that the dryer door is completely closed; the drum does not spin without the door latched shut.
- Packing wet clothes into the drum may overload the motor and prevent it spinning. Try breaking the drying load in half, removing heavy items like blue jeans, blankets or duvets. Remove all the clothes if the dryer doesn't work with fewer items and try spinning the drum by hand. You should feel resistance if the dryer belt is properly attached. The drum spins freely if the drive belt has snapped. Overloading the drum is a major cause of drive belt failure.
- There are a number of possible power supply problems that stop the drum spinning. A loose power cord in the outlet could be causing an intermittent power problem; make sure the power cable is firmly inserted into an outlet without the use of an extension cord or adapter. Make sure the outlet is working; a blown fuse or tripped breaker may partially interrupt the dryer's motor causing the appliance to accept instructions but fail to start.
- The thermal limiter is a special fuse that automatically cuts power to the dryer if the internal temperature every rises above 220 degrees Fahrenheit. The appliance could have overheated during the previous cycle and caused the thermal limiter to kick in. Once tripped, the limiter needs replacing. Call a technician to have a replacement installed.
