    • 1). Plug one end of the USB cable that came with the TonePort into the port on the back of the Toneport and the other end into an available USB port on your computer. Do not turn the TonePort on yet.

    • 2). Place the GearBox CD that came with the TonePort into the CD drive on your computer. Follow the installation instructions to get the software installed onto your machine. Flip the switch on the back of your TonePort to turn it on when you are instructed to do so.

    • 3). Plug your microphone, guitar or other instrument into one of the two inputs on the front of the TonePort device.

    • 4). Click on the "Windows" button and go to "Programs," then "Line 6," followed by "Tools" and finally "Monkey." This program will walk you through setting up the GearBox plug-in that you need to use the TonePort.

    • 5). Navigate back to the "Line 6" folder and choose "GearBox" to launch the GearBox program. Click under "Source Select" and choose the input into which you plugged your instrument on the TonePort. The name of the input will be listed on the TonePort; not all TonePort models will have more than one input port.

    • 6). Click on the "Tone Menu" at the top of the program to choose the tone that you want to use with your instrument. You can also choose an "Amp Model" and a "Cab Model" right below the "Tone Menu."

    • 7). Connect headphones or speakers to the ports on the back of the TonePort. If you do not do this, you will only hear the music through your computer's speakers. Your TonePort is now set up and ready to play.
