A Guide to Alabama Tourism
- Alabama is where many important events of the Civil Rights movement took place. During the struggle for African-American rights in the 1950s and 60s, the actions of activists from Alabama paved the way for civil rights achievements throughout the United States. It was in Montgomery, Alabama, that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. first preached to the congregation of a Baptist church.
- Birthplace to one of America's leading singer-song writers, Hank Williams Sr., Alabama played a pivotal role in the development of blues and country music. The Hank Williams Memorial in Oakwood Cemetery Annex is a big draw for country music fans and Alabama's Jazz Hall of fame celebrates the music of Duke Ellington, Erskine Hawkins and Nat King Cole.
- Home to the Nasa Space Center, Alabama offers tourists the chance to embark on a space exploration experience at Huntsville's U.S. Space and Rocket Center. Outdoor enthusiasts can find plenty to do at the Little River Canyon National Preserve.
