How to Set Up Humidors
- 1). Wipe the interior of the humidor with a clean, dry cloth. Set a small bowl of water inside the humidor and close the lid.
- 2). Refill the bowl of water after 12 hours if necessary. The cedar inside the humidor is properly prepared when the water in the bowl stops evaporating. If your humidor has a hygrometer, continue to allow water to evaporate from the bowl until the hygrometer measures the relative humidity inside the box at 65 percent.
- 3). Remove the humidifier sponge from the humidor. Soak the sponge in a solution of half distilled water and half propylene glycol for 30 minutes.
- 4). Replace the humidifier sponge in the box. Load the humidor with cigars or other tobacco products and close the lid.
- 5). Check the hygrometer (if your humidor has one) daily to ensure your tobacco does not dry out. Re-soak the humidifier sponge in a solution of distilled water and propylene glycol as needed.
