When a person learns on the job, the business can lose crucial time.
And if the greenhorn makes the wrong decision in a difficult situation, the business can lose money.
In a competitive economy and a difficult economy, any business would want to avoid this.
So these businesses would always select the best person for the position, and simply ignore the age.
Some people believe that businesses are always keen to hire people at the lowest possible salary.
They say this is particularly true in a difficult economy because the employer is trying to save every penny and reduce the operating costs.
In reality, this is just partly true.
Many businesses don't believe in being "penny wise, and pound foolish".
