How to Change the Brakes on a 1997 Nissan Maxima
- 1). Use a floor jack to lift the 1997 Nissan Maxima and support the vehicle with jack stands.
- 2). Take off the front wheel and tire assemblies off the Maxima.
- 3). Remove the two guide pin bolts with a ratchet and socket.
- 4). Disconnect the hose from the brake fluid and block the open section from dirt.
- 5). Take off the brake caliper assembly and remove the front brake pads of the 1997 Maxima.
- 1). Put on the new brakes pads, retaining clips and shims.
- 2). Replace the brake caliper and tighten it with a guide pin bolt to 16 to 23 foot-pounds with a torque wrench.
- 3). Connect the brake line to the caliper with copper washers. Tighten the bolts to 12 to 14 foot-pounds with a torque wrench.
- 4). Replace the pads on the opposite side of the car. Replace the wheel and tire assemblies and lower the car.
- 5). Fill the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir.
