Learning how to prepare grape wine is not especially difficult.
Sure, there are some things you need to learn but it's not rocket science.
Let me first just qualify what I mean by how to prepare grape wine.
I'm not talking about those simple wine preparation kits you can purchase over the Internet or in your local supermarket.
I'm talking about making top quality homemade grape wine.
Wine you won't be embarrassed opening up at a dinner party.
Real top quality stuff.
Well obviously you have to learn just a little more to create great quality wine.
The results however will be in a different league.
Delicious wine for less that a dollar a bottle.
Firstly you'll have to select your grapes with care.
The grape is the cornerstone of good quality wine and you'll need to choose between several varieties.
Secondly, you'll need to prepare your mix, or must, properly.
A hydrometer will allow you to adjust sugar levels correctly.
Something too sweet will not be pleasant to drink, while something with too little sugar just won't have a good alcohol level.
An acid test kit enables you to control the critical acid levels of your must.
Too little acid and your wine will end up tasteless and flat.
Too much and it will be sharp and vinegary.
A third thing to consider is the addition of a Pectic Enzyme.
This aids in breaking down the pulp of a red wine grape.
Another decision you'll have to make is whether to smooth the wine a little by adding oak.
This often improves taste and body.
As you can see there's a bit more to preparing great quality wine, than a simple wine kit.
It's all very easy-to-learn stuff though and is the reason you will end up with top quality wine.
