    • 1). Clean your room thoroughly. Remove bed linens, sheets, curtains, draperies and bedding accessories such as pillows. Use fragrance-free cleaning products. It is best to open your windows, if the temperature allows it, to air out the room.

    • 2). Wash your sheets, bed linens and machine-washable draperies or curtains with a fragrance-free mild detergent.

    • 3). Add carpet deodorizer to your rugs and allow it to penetrate for several minutes. Vacuum the carpets, removing the deodorizer.

    • 4). Sweep hardwood floors thoroughly. You can also opt to use a home remedy of mixing one cup white vinegar with a gallon of water. Mop the floor and wipe the mixture away with a dry mop. Do not soak the floors with the mixture or repeat the mixture daily, to avoid damage to the floors.

    • 5). Place your items back in your room. Lightly spray a mild room spray deodorizer. It is best to wait one week before adding sachets or potpourri. It is important to purchase scented or fragrant deodorizers that do not have contrasting scents to keep your bedroom smelling fresh and clean.
