How to Convert a Lawn Mower Engine to Propane
- 1). Remove the lawn mower's gas tank and carburetor with a screwdriver.
- 2). Cut the nozzle from the propane torch. Be sure to remove the filter from inside the nozzle of the torch. If you do not remove the filter, the flow of propane will be restricted, and the engine will not start.
- 3). Place plastic tubing over the exposed end of the propane torch. Use duct tape to keep the tubing in place if necessary. For a more permanent solution, you can solder a fixture onto copper tubing and screw it into the propane torch.
- 4). Place the other end of the plastic or copper tubing directly into the engine intake, about one to two inches.
- 5). Secure the torch's propane tank to the lawn mower with duct tape. It can be placed in a number of locations, but it is often placed on the lawn mower's frame near the steering handles for easy access to the propane valve.
- 6). Start the engine, and carefully adjust the propane valve until the motor idles at a steady pace. Be careful not to allow too much propane to flow into the engine because the engine will stall or rev too high, which can cause the mower's blade to break off.
