    • 1). Coat your deck with a protective sealant. This protects the wood against moisture penetration and it can also help prevent wood chipping and other wear from furniture feet.

    • 2). Avoid dragging your chairs when you move them. Pick the chair up and place it where it needs to be, instead of pulling it across the wood.

    • 3). Apply glides to the feet of your chairs. Glides are protective covers that provide a layer of soft material between the chair feet and the wood of the deck. Glides come in a variety of materials such as felt, rubber, and PVC. Glides can be applied with glue, drilled, or they can slide into place, depending on your chairs and the type of glides you are using.

    • 4). Keep a protective mat underneath the chairs. Plastic protectors are designed to prevent rolling chairs from damaging a floor, and the clear mats will have similar effect in protecting the deck wood from patio chairs.
