Prepping the White Board

• Cleaning a white board is easily accomplished, if you have the right tools. You only need rubbing alcohol or white vinegar and an abrasive cloth. If possible, all cleaning should be done in a well-ventilated area or outdoors. Before beginning, wipe down the entire white board with a damp abrasive cloth to make sure you can see the areas that need deeper cleaning.
  
  

Cleaning the White Board

• Start with the white vinegar because it's less corroding than alcohol, and you don't want to remove the top layer of white board.
  
  Apply 2 tbsp. of white vinegar to an abrasive cloth. This will be used to scrub off the marker residue. You should rub the affected area in a clockwise circular motion. This will help get the cleaning solution deeper into the white board. Alternate between counterclockwise and clockwise with each scrubbing session. Complete this in five-minute intervals. You should take frequent five-minute breaks to prevent arm fatigue.
  
  If there is still marker residue remaining after applying white vinegar, move on to the rubbing alcohol. Apply 2 tbsp. of rubbing alcohol to a clean abrasive cloth and wipe the white board in the same manner as the vinegar application. Use small circular motions and press firmly against resistant stains. As the stain is lifted, reposition the cloth so that a clean portion is pressed against the white board.
  
  

Bringing the Shine Back

• If the white board appears dull when you are finished removing all stains, dry the surface with paper towel and apply a spray of furniture polish. Wipe the white board with a clean microfiber cloth. Use the same circular motion for removing stains to buff the polish onto the board. This will restore shine to your white board. Once the board has dried completely, you can begin writing on it.
