My iPod Touch Is Not Recharging
- FireWire power adapters and car chargers do not work with the iPod touch. Even if they connect to your iPod's charger cable and seem to fit, they won't recharge it. The iPod touch comes with a white charger cable that fits into a USB port or a USB wall power adapter.
- Charger cables from some first and second generation iPods may not work with your iPod touch. They have a different number of pins internally, so they'll fit together but not provide a charge. Your iPod isn't in any danger of damage from these chargers, though. Try a different charger cable, such as the one that came with your iPod touch, if you suspect this to be the case.
- The iPod touch takes more to power than older or smaller iPods. It requires a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Usually this means a USB port directly on your computer, rather than on a wireless keyboard or other smaller device. Try plugging the iPod touch's charger directly into your computer.
- Your computer must be turned on and not asleep or in standby in order to provide a charge to your iPod touch. Your laptop may be open, but if it's fallen asleep it will stop charging. Either connect your laptop to a power source or change your computer's settings so it stays awake.
