Great debaters and authors Riveting us with their words Captivating us with their intense speech Mesmerizing us with their mannerisms Galvanizing us with their confrontational manner Stirring us with their passionate oratory Gripping us with their wisdom and insight Amazingly uplifting us during the darkest night Encouraging our hearts that all will be alright Powerfully entreating us to come together To unify and be one voice for a worthy cause Such mighty spokespersons for a needy society Are often deemed radical, rebels without a pause And rightfully so, while for freedom they fight To rectify injustice and wrongs amid humanity's plight These great prophets and preachers arouse our soul Comfort, heal our wounds, and make us whole While awaking us to truth and our personal power Unwilling to yield to the enemy who does devour They collide full force with evildoers with lofty looks Corporate crooks who pilfer pensions and cook the books Politicians who purport and pontificate with patriotic rhetoric Media moguls who censor public opinion with their spin Government servants who merely serve themselves Racist police who brutalize the black community Florida boot camp workers who killed a black boy Than were acquitted of manslaughter with immunity NYPD killing black men at a celebratory bachelor party Our modern society seems to have shunned morality Forgotten all sensibility preferring profanity and vanity But through all of this with the sword of the word and pen Orators and authors uplift their voice to pierce and penetrate Confront, correct, aggravate, agitate, irritate, and alleviate Such evils that denigrate mankind's personhood and stature Providing for society a necessary alternative view and cure Opening for the oppressed and maligned freedom's door Bringing forth revolutionizing words with hearts that are pure Undoubtedly we are in need of more great debaters and provocateurs.
Of course imperialism says invade other nations beaches and shores Send fighter pilots overhead to bomb evildoers and innocents galore Meanwhile politicians with patriotic rhetoric give threats and roar Yet courageous debaters and authors to challenge the status quo Giving light and illumination to a country not knowing which way to go Bamboozled and blind by their own pride, arrogance, and greatness By which they eventually shall self-destruct and be brought to less WMD a futile disguise, war a sad sorrow, leading to deadly demise, unless Great debaters and authors can arise to open our dull and drunken eyes These great debaters and authors make us think beyond the media lies.
