Amazon River Beach Resort
We enjoyed a scenic riverboat ride from Manaus to the jungle nature trek trail.
A riverboat met our excursion group at the pier in Manaus right next to where the Seven Seas Mariner was docked. We rode about 45 minutes to the nature trail. On the way to the jungle nature trail, our riverboat passed this very nice resort on the Amazon River, with a beautiful white sandy beach.
We were surprised to see so many people swimming in the river at this and other resorts. Our guide, who did a commentary during our ride along the river, told us that each year there is a major swimming contest across the Amazon.
When queried about all of the piranhas, caymans and other dangerous creatures found in the Amazon, he said that patrol boats circled the swimmers to protect them as they crossed the several mile stretch of river. Apparently, the piranhas are not quite as dangerous as we thought!
