    • 1). Open Paint. You should be able to find it on your "Start" menu under "Programs," in the "Accessories" folder. A new blank document will open, along with a toolbar and color palette that provide the necessary drawing tools for creating your cartoon.

    • 2). Select the paintbrush tool from the toolbar palette on the side. It is the icon that looks like a paintbrush. Hover over the icon and it will indicate the name of the tool. Click the paintbrush icon that says "Brush" when scrolled over to open this tool. On the toolbar, set the brush width you prefer. A setting of "2" is ideal for drawing the outline of your cartoon. Set the color of the line as well. The default color is black, which is good for drawing outlines. If you want a different color, click on the "Fill with color" brush and then click the color you want to use, located in the color palette at the bottom.

    • 3). Start your cartoon by clicking and holding the left button of your mouse, then dragging the line to draw. Release the mouse button when you finish drawing a section of your cartoon. If you make a mistake, click "Undo" on the Edit menu or choose the "Eraser" icon from the toolbar palette and drag it over the section you want to erase. To draw perfect lines or circles automatically, select the appropriately shaped tool from the toolbar palette and click your left mouse button to apply the shapes.

    • 4). Color your cartoon image using the paintbrush and setting your brush size and color as you did for the initial outline. Use the "Bucket" tool to fill large, closed spaces with a single color.
