Green House Effect of Poison Gas
- The natural greenhouse effect is necessary for sustaining life on the planet but when this natural greenhouse effect is exaggerated by the release of poisonous gases due to human activity, global warming occurs. In fact, if there were no natural greenhouse effect, the planet would have been cooler by around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, which would have made life on Earth impossible.
- In order to curtail global warming, it is important to locate the sources of poisonous gases and then take preventive measures to reduce the amount of these gases released in the atmosphere. The main source of greenhouse gases is the automobile's internal combustion engine and other industrial applications that release poisonous gases like carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere. Measures should be taken to control the burning of fossil fuels and industrial applications that release poisonous gases.
- It has been proven beyond doubt that if the present rate of global warming continues, the world will suffer from disastrous consequences that include melting of the polar icecaps, flooding by rising sea levels, drought and famines. The effect of climatic changes has been recognized by all nations of the world as the climate of the world has been showing erratic and unpredictable trends. It is accurate to say that climate change is not a phenomenon of future any more; it is very much a present reality.
- Carbon dioxide has been recognized as the main poisonous gas responsible for the greenhouse effect. This is because carbon dioxide has the ability to absorb infrared radiation, thereby trapping the heat radiated by objects on Earth. This trapping of heat in the Earth’s atmosphere, coupled by the thinning of the ozone layer, has led to a host of climate-change problems on Earth.
- In order to tackle the greenhouse effect and global warming problem, a multidimensional strategy should be adopted. Besides shifting to alternative energy and controlling the use of fossil fuels, it is necessary to provide Earth with a green cover of trees as trees utilize carbon dioxide and release oxygen in the atmosphere by means of the natural process of photosynthesis. In simple words, aforestation--the planting of trees and establishing forests--should be promoted and the cutting of trees should be stopped.
