Scrabble is one of the most popular word-based games and has been for quite a few years.
Parents have used it for a long time to help their children learn how to spell and build words while enjoying a fun game.
Here is some additional information about this popular board game.
The actual board has 15 squares across and 15 squares up, where each player forms words using their tiles.
The game includes 100 tiles, with 2 tiles being blank (which can be used for any letter) and the other 98 including letters on them.
Each letter has a specific point value, listed below.
Q and Z are worth 10 points, J and X are worth 8, K is worth 5, F, H, V, W and Y are worth 4, B, C, M and P are worth 3, D and G are worth 2 and all of the rest except the blanks are worth 1 point each.
The blanks are not worth any points.
On the playing surface, there are special squares, which give you additional points for completing words over those squares.
They are Triple Word Score, Double Word Score, Triple Letter Score and Double Letter Score.
The names are self explanatory, as in by completing a word that includes the Triple Word Score Square you receive triple the points for the entire word.
These special squares are only used once each game, so if a word has already used a particular square, it cannot be used again.
Each player receives 7 tiles to start the game.
After the first player places a word starting in the center of the board, he or she draws new tiles to get back to 7 and the next player forms a word using one of the letters now on the board.
