Things to Consider When Purchasing an Inflatable Birthing Pool

An inflatable birthing pool can provide you with an excellent opportunity to keep the birth process natural once labour starts.
When creating a birth plan that fits your needs, and the needs of your new baby, a water birth often comes up at some point, and is no longer seen as unusual.
Water is an incredible natural pain relief and relaxant, and whether you use it for the bulk of your labour, moving out to deliver, or stay and deliver your baby into the warm water, it's a really lovely way to help bring your new little one into the world.
It might be tempting to just go grab an inflatable paddling pool to "make do" but you may find it's a wasted purchase, as it doesn't fit your needs in labour at all.
Here are some things to consider to help you select one you'll actually want to use: What size do you want to have? Some prefer the idea of keeping it small and cosy, and fit for one.
If you've been in labour before you'll know whether you like the sense of being closed in or you like to feel like you have plenty of space.
A large pool can also accommodate partners and children in the earlier stages if desired.
How comfortable is it? You may spend a bit of time leaning forward over the walls on your knees.
If the bottom is not padded this may feel uncomfortable for your body.
You also want to feel secure, and that your knees are not going to slip.
You'll also want to check how it feels to lean towards the sides as this is often a popular way to sit during some of the more intense stages of labour.
Is everything included in the package? If you buy an inflatable birthing pool you'll want one that has everything you need included.
This includes a hose and fittings, a cover to keep it warm after filling, and a thermometer to check the water is not too hot and not too cold for the mother and the transition to the world for the baby (when it would ideally be around 37.
5 - body temperature).
Have someone else do the work of sourcing all of that for you, or look for a package providing all the tried and trusted products.
A water birth is often found to be an incredibly positive and empowering experience and you'll want it to be comfortable too.
An inflatable birthing pool can help you have the birth you want.
