Epoxy Floor Problems
- Epoxy will not adhere to unprepared tile floors. You must abrade tile flooring by sanding it before application. After the tile is abraded, it requires a base coat of acrylic primer before it will accept an epoxy finish. Improper preparation will cause tile floors to reject epoxy paint.
- Horizontal cement is not suitable for any type of paint. Before you can apply epoxy to a concrete floor, you must etch the cement with muriatic acid. Otherwise, the surface will chip.
- Before unfinished wood floors will accept epoxy, they require a coat of acrylic primer. If the wood floors are stained, they require oil-based primer. If you apply epoxy to an unprimed wood floor, you will end up with paint failure.
