Young Adult Books Need Ratings, Just Like Movies
The popularity of Twilight overshadows the vampire books before it, for those not into the genre, and highlights those that followed.
Since then the attention has caused a huge influx of new vampire series, that means there are more of these books on the market, and more of these books that teenage girls are reading.
Are all of them appropriate? What books should our daughters be reading and which ones shouldn't they be reading? Movies are ranked, why not books? I recently read the Vampire Academy Series, ending in the Spirit Bound novel, in order to make sure that the books were appropriate for my daughter.
Compared to some of the other books I have read the content was mature (which was appreciated, I was sick of the teenage drama) without being overly mature.
Truth be told, I want to know all of this information before I ever read.
There needs to be a rating, just like the movies have a rating.
Why is literature less subjected to critique than the movies? Something that is written has just as much potential of having content that is too mature for some readers, and I as a parent just want a heads up.
I want to know if the book is recommended for someone over 12, 15, or 17.
I want to know if the content in the book is going to be graphic, or if I'm going to run into some offensive language, or intense violence.
