How to Touch Up the Paint in a Room
- 1). Apply spackle to the putty knife, and use the tool to fill in any holes that appear in the drywall of the room that will be painted. Spackle fills holes to give the drywall a smooth and appealing finish.
- 2). Purchase a new can of paint that matches the original color of the wall. Use the original paint can (if it was saved) for reference. If you do not still have the old can, use a paint color chart to find the exact color. Paint can be purchased at any paint or home improvement store.
- 3). Apply paint to the paintbrush by gently dipping it into the paint can. Wipe each side of the brush against the inner part of the paint can to remove any loose paint to avoid dripping on the floors. A dropcloth can be used if you would like to be careful, and ensure that nothing that falls from the brush reaches the floor.
- 4). Apply the paint to each of the spots that need to be touched up with short, careful strokes. It is fine if some of the new paint gets onto the old coat as they will simply blend together once the new paint is dry. Be sure to hit all of the trouble spots. Allow the paint 24 hours to dry. If needed, apply a second coat after the 24-hour drying process is complete.
