    • 1). Open the Options menu in Windows Media Player. In Windows Media Player 12, the Options menu is under the Organize menu. In some previous versions, the Options menu can be found under the Tools menu. Click on "Options" to open the Options pop-up window.

    • 2). Modify settings as desired in the Options window. There are many tabs in the Options window, each relating to a different area of functionality for Windows Media Player. For example, if you want to change how Windows Media Player copies music from your CDs to play on your computer, click on the tab marked "Rip Music." You can then select the format of the audio files (wma, mp3 or wav) and change the folder where the audio files will be saved.

    • 3). Click the "Apply" button to immediately save your changes and continue to adjust settings, or click the "OK" button to save your changes and close the Options window. Closing the Options window will return you to the main Windows Media Player interface.
