With thousands of homeless cats and dogs across the nation these days, adopting a needy pet can be a worthwhile and rewarding experience. When visiting a state adoption facility, you will find that most of the animals waiting for new homes are loving, gentle creatures that just want to be your best friend for life. Regulations for adopting a pet vary from state to state, and in Kentucky, it's a fairly painless process. - A pet adoption counselor will help you with a survey.taking test image by Petro Feketa from Fotolia.com
When you decide you want to adopt a pet, you will need to fill out a Pawsitive PetMatch survey through the Kentucky Humane Society. The survey will ask you questions regarding your family and routines to help match you up with a pet suitable to your lifestyle. An adoption counselor will help you with your decision on what type of pet is best for you and will answer any questions you may have. - After you select your pet, you will fill out an adoption application.the cat image by Milena Kowalska from Fotolia.com
After you have visited your local pet adoption agency and decided on a pet, you will need to fill out an adoption application. The application will ask what type of housing you live in, questions pertaining to any other pets you own and your veterinarian's name if you have one. Your application will then be reviewed by a trained adoption employee. - Fees for pet adoption vary according to the dog or cat you decide on.Puppies of the spitz-dog and cat in studio image by Ulf from Fotolia.com
Once your application has been approved, you will be required to pay Kentucky pet adoption fees, which range from $65 to $105 for cats and $65 to $350 for dogs. These fees cover medical costs pertaining to the spaying or neutering of your new friend, microchipping and microchip registration, and up-to-date state-required vaccinations. Once you have met all the requirements, you can take your new pet home with you.
