How To Save Marriage Alone

101 5
Marriage is a time honored tradition, and while it seems to be becoming less and less popular, there are still many who enjoy this union. If you are in a marriage and you feel that it is going downhill, you might not be enjoying it quite as much. There are many, many reasons for which you might experience a failing marriage, but you should understand that you cannot save marriage alone, no matter how hard you try.

If you want to save the marriage, the first thing you will need to do is sit down and consider how your love life actually got to this point. What happened exactly? This is not a point where you want to assign blame, because more often than not, both parties are equally to blame. There are some instances of course where a spouse is irresponsible or even abusive, and in these cases you will not want to save the marriage. Barring those circumstances, as long as you do not attempt to save marriage alone, you should have some success.

As you think about the marriage and what precisely went wrong, it would be a good idea to start thinking about exactly what you can do to fix it. As we have indicated, it takes two, and a good first step would be to speak with your significant other. There are a few key things that you will want to find out if you are going to save the marriage:

  • What did you do wrong?

  • What can you do to improve yourself?

  • What can you do to improve this marriage?

As much as we might like to believe it is not our fault, there is the possibility that we are overlooking something. With that being the case, you might want to involve a third party. A third party can help you with several different things, and perhaps even accomplish tasks that you have found to be utterly impossible in the past. For example a marriage counselor may be able to help in pointing out flaws in both parties, and suggest remedies or those flaws. Make no mistake, no one is flawless, but working toward perfection and keeping the marriage intact is very important.

The items that we have gone over are obviously very important, but it will all be for nothing unless you actually want the marriage to work out. If you do, then you may be able to salvage it, but if you really want to walk away, there will be no way to stop you. Keep in mind that it works the same on the other side -- your significant other must be interested in saving the marriage if there is to be any hope of going back to normal. In the end, it will all depend on your ability to communicate with one another, and your willingness to create an acceptable environment or both of you.

This will not be an easy journey. Depending on the reason for the breakdown, it could take some time to get your marriage back on track, and you may need to make sacrifices. Remember that you cannot save marriage alone, and while it will take some time to get back to normal, it will be well worth it in the end.
